Voilà, je sais ce que j’aurai fait de ce pseudo jour fatidique du 11/11/11 !
Il faisait très froid…et quand je dis très, je veux dire TREEEES !
Mais mon futur beau-frère avait réussi à m’avoir des pass pour l’expo Paris Photo donc je décidai d’y aller et d’en profiter…
Théoriquement avec ces pass, pas besoin de faire la queue…mais…comment dire…le Grand Palais a eu du mal à gérer l’affluence, les gens ne sortaient pas assez vite et pour des raisons de sécurité j’imagine, l’équipe de sécurité nous a fait patienter. Tous. Ceux avec pass et ceux sans pass.
Et j’ai eu des frissons…mais de 2 sortes: de froid, ça on s’en doute bien, mais aussi de légère peur quand j’ai entendu gronder et siffler la foule de ceux qui attendaient pour acheter leur ticket…Je me suis mise à imaginer ce qu’avait pu être les soulèvement de foule en 1789…oui, il faut croire que le froid a un certain effet hallucinogène sur mon cerveau, ne m’en tenez pas rigueur, je redeviens normale dès que l’air que j’expire ne ressemble plus à une fumée blanche ;)
DONC, pour en revenir à Paris photo…j’ai essayé d’occuper le temps dehors comme j’ai pu, en essayant de me coller aux gens pour me réchauffer mais sans passer pour une perverse…pas évident ! Mais aussi, j’ai pris quelques photos comme vous pouvez le voir, dont ces 2 gamins qui chahutaient sur les épaules de leurs parents :)
Après facilement 30 minutes d’attente, j’étais fin prête à être vendue en tant que produit de chez Picard, mais surtout fin prête à entrer dans le saint des saints (sans laisser mon manteau au vestiaire)!
Après 15 ans, Paris Photo a eu tellement de succès qu’ils se sont installés au Grand Palais pour cette édition :)
Comment vous dire… c’était immenstissime ! (et j’invente des mots si j’veux non mais !)
A tel point que je n’ai pas pu tout voir.
Mais parlons de ce que j’ai vu et aimé:
-cette série de 5 photos de Duane Michals « Grandpa goes to heaven », qui n’a pas plu à tout le monde si j’en crois les réactions que j’ai pu entendre…
-cette photo prise par Garry Winogrand à New York en 1963 où l’ont peut voir une main humaine et une trompe d’éléphant. Aucun visage mais cette photo me parle.
-une baignoire noire remplie d’eau avec un écran dans le fond diffusant des photos, cette oeuvre s’appelait « bain révélateur de talents » et j’ai beaucoup aimé l’idée ! Par contre il faudra qu’on m’explique comment l’écran résiste à l’eau…Bientôt nous aurons peut être tous un écran tv ou facebook dans le fond de notre baignoire qui sait ? ;)
-mais aussi et je dirais presque surtout cette photo prise par Diane Arbus de ce jeune garçon exaspéré « Exasperated boy with toy hand grenade » prise à New York en 1962. Je n’ai pas encore pu aller voir son exposition à Paris au Jeu de Paume mais cette photo m’a donné très envie d’en voir plus !
-Et enfin « Tetrarch » de Christopher Bucklow. C’est cette photo très grand format d’une silhouette dorée d’une femme de dos.
J’ai tellement aimé que j’ai demandé à tout hasard comment l’artiste avait procédé.

Voilà…je culpabilisais un peu à prendre ces photos mais il semblait y avoir une autorisation tacite, tout le monde prenait des photos. Mais surtout, je tenais à partager avec vous ces oeuvres et vous donner envie de les voir. Donc je mets un point d’honneur à créditer toutes ces oeuvres :)

Ok, so I won’t forget what I did on the 11/11/11 !
It was very cold…and when I say very, I mean VERRRRRRY !
But my future brother-in-law managed to obtain some passes to Paris Photo, a huuuge photo exhibition in Paris (normally 25€ for 1 ticket !), so I decided to go and have some fun !
Theorically, with a pass, you don’t need to do the queue but…how should I put that…the Grand Palais had some kind of difficulties to manage the huge crowd that came to Paris Photo… They said people weren’t getting out fast enough so we had to wait, for security reasons…All of us. People with tickets and people without.
And I got shivers, but 2 kinds: shivers because of the cold as you can imagine, but also slightly from fear when I heard the crowd grumbling and whistling because they had been waiting outside in the cold for far too long… I then imagined how it must have been to be in front of uprisings in 1789…Ok, i guess cold has some hallucinogenic effects on my brain…but don’t worry, it stops as soon as the air I exhale doesn’t look like white smoke :)
SOOO, let’s go back to my subject, Paris Photo…. I tried to find things to do while waiting, for example get some warmth by sticking to other people in the queue without looking like a perv…Not easy I must say ! :P
But also, I took a few photos, like those 2 kids playing on their parents shoulders :)
After 30ish minutes of waiting, I was ready to be sold as frozen food, but mostly ready to get out of the freezer and get in the sanctuary (and keeping my coat on !)
After 15 years, Paris Photo had so much success that this year they decided to see things bigger and exhibit at The Grand Palais (and as you all know, Grand means Big !) this year :)
How should I decribe it ? Gigantikismus ! (and I invent words and I want to ! )
That big that I didn’t manage to see everything.
So let’s talk about what I saw and liked:
-a serie of 5 photos by Duane Michals « Grandpa goes to heaven », that didn’t please to everyone if I remember some reactions around me…
-this photo taken by Garry Winogrand in New York in 1963 where one can see a human hand and an elephant’s trunk. No face but that photo spoke to me.
-a black bathtub full of water and a screen under the water showing some photos. The title was « Bain révélateur de talents » which is a word game around terms you use in film photography. If someone can translate it correctly, please help ! :)
I loved the idea ! But I wonder how the screen reacted with all that water…I guess in the near future we’ll all have a tv screen or facebook in our bathtubs :D
-But also and mostly that photo taken by Diane Arbus of that young boy « Exasperated boy with toy hand grenade » taken in NYC in 1962. I didn’t see her exhibition in Paris yet but I hope to see it now that I saw this photo !
-And lastly « Tetrarch » by Christopher Bucklow. It’s that big size photo of a golden silhouette of a woman.
I liked it so much that I had to ask how the photographer did it.
Well it took him a looooong time !

I’m a fan !
I was a bit ashamed to take these pictures of photos taken by others but everybody did and nobody was saying anything. And mostly, I wanted to share these pieces of art with you and make you wanna see them.
And of course I credited all the artists (except one I didn’t write down his name…if you know who it is, I will add him)
